What to Wear for Your Christmas Tree Farm Photos

the holiday season is here

The holiday season is here and if I couldn’t tell by the new crispness in the air, I can definitely tell by all the tree farm mini sessions being scheduled! These mini sessions are some of my favorites. When picking outfits, I say go classy and cozy or fun and festive! But remember the most important thing is that your kiddos stay warm. This year I want to encourage you to pick the style that fits your family, whether that means stylish and classic or festive and casual. Remember, it always comes down to your goals for the session. With that goal in mind, here are some things to consider:

Formal + Classic Look

If you’re looking for a sophisticated look for your family Christmas card (don’t forget to use my discount code HOLPHOTOELIZABETHHITE for 20 percent off your Minted Christmas cards), then you might want to stick with more formal and classic family photo outfits. These photos are nice because they’re incredibly versatile. For example, they would be great for printing and hanging in your home, gifting to grandparents, and as a more elegant-looking Christmas card. I would recommend the formal look if these are the only family photos that you are going to take this year because they give you the freedom to use them in a lot of different ways. I have one disclaimer: if you choose formal clothing that doesn’t mean your photos will be stiff. That couldn’t be farther from the truth! We will still have lots of fun together capturing candid moments during our photography session.

Christmas PJs + Festive Attire

If you’re okay with a casual and more silly look to your photos then Christmas PJs is a great option. This could easily become a fun holiday family tradition where the kids get to help pick out the PJs and be more involved in the photo session prep work. If you have a family that is more camera shy then PJs might help eliminate any nerves that come with taking family photos. Or if your family is silly together then it can capture that spirit and bring your family’s playful personality to life. These photos would be great for a fun and festive Christmas card. My one suggestion for picking Christmas PJs is don’t wear a bright red top because it will distort the balance of color in your photos.

I hope this helps when planning outfits for your tree farm sessions this year. As always I am happy to talk with you about your options and see which one would be the best fit for your goals and your family.
